Why We Love Outdoor Vow Renewals on the Isle of Wight

Let's be honest. Weddings can be wonderful, but they can also be... a lot.
Guest lists. Seating plans. Colour schemes. Chair covers. Someone's second cousin you've never met but apparently "has to be invited". Before you know it, you're organising a military operation instead of celebrating your relationship.
That's one of the reasons we love vow renewals so much.
You've already done all that.
This time, it's different.
A vow renewal isn't about proving anything to anyone. It's about taking a moment to look at the life you've built together and saying, "I'd choose you all over again."
We think that's pretty special.
Why outdoors?
Well, we're slightly biased.
We happen to think most things are better outdoors.
Conversations seem to last longer around a fire pit than they do around a formal dinner table. Children disappear to explore instead of staring at tablets. Dogs get invited. People kick their shoes off. Someone always ends up making tea while someone else burns the marshmallows.
Nobody minds.
That's the point.
An outdoor celebration feels wonderfully uncomplicated.
It doesn't have to be a wedding all over again
One of the nicest things about renewing your vows is that there aren't really any rules.
Invite ten people.
Invite fifty.
Wear a wedding dress.
Wear walking boots.
Bring a pizza van.
Bring a picnic.
Ask your best friend to say a few words.
Find a celebrant who makes everyone laugh and cry in equal measure.
Do whatever feels right for you.
It's your story. Tell it your way.
Why rush home?
This is one of our favourite parts.
Imagine the celebrations winding down as the sun starts to disappear behind the trees. The children are still playing. Someone's making another round of hot chocolate. The fire is crackling away and nobody is looking at their watch.
Now imagine not having to leave.
Some of your guests pitch a tent and stay the night.
You wander back to a beautifully made luxury bell tent instead of driving home.
The next morning starts with birdsong, fresh coffee and breakfast together instead of motorway traffic.
If you ask us, that's a much nicer ending.
Or perhaps it's the perfect beginning to the next chapter.
Why we'd choose simple every time
There's something lovely about a celebration that doesn't try too hard.
No huge production.
No pressure.
No pretending.
Just the people who matter most, plenty of fresh air and enough time to actually enjoy each other's company.
That's what we love about Rusty Meadow too.
We're not trying to be a grand country house or a luxury hotel. We don't think the best memories need crystal chandeliers or gold cutlery.
Give us a sunset, a campfire, a few fairy lights and the people you love, and we'd happily take that every single time.
Thinking about renewing your vows?
If you're looking for somewhere a little different on the Isle of Wight, we'd love to show you around.
Rusty Meadow is also private outdoor venue where intimate celebrations feel right at home. Whether you're planning a blessing, a vow renewal, an anniversary gathering or simply an excuse to get your favourite people together, we'd love to hear your ideas.
Bring the people you love.
Bring the dog if you like.
Stay until the stars come out.
After all, some of life's best celebrations don't need four walls.
They just need the right people.
