Rusty's Rest
Rusty’s Rest – 2 night FREE family camping breaks to
rest, recharge, reconnect, when a family just needs a break from life's unwanted curveballs.
When we had the vision of opening a campsite, it was of course to offer people a lovely, basic place to enjoy the outdoors, but there was also another vision…..
We know and appreciate every day, how lucky we are to camp and to enjoy camping and to own a little spot of land. We never take that for granted. We also know that life has a habit of throwing families some serious shit storms, as it has ours, and camping and being out doors can be incredibly therapeutic, and a chance to just step away from the crap.
We knew that whenever and wherever we one day opened our campsite, we wanted to offer some ‘respite camping’. A chance to offer families facing some crappy shit, who would love to experience camping, (but for whatever reason, it just isn’t within their reach) an opportunity to come and enjoy a camping break on us.
A chance for families who are experiencing real shitty times, to simply rest, recharge and reconnect as a family.
An opportunity for families to enjoy a fully equipped family tent, where all they need is bedding, food and their clothes for a 2 night stay….on us. Completely free.
Rusty's Rest and Rusty Meadow are projects run by Rusty Rails Farm CIC, a family run team committed to giving back and supporting our local community. Giving back is in our DNA!

Rusty's Rest is our fully kitted out family tent for 2 adults and 2 kids (3 at a squeeze!) available for 2 FREE 2 night break on us, subject to approval.
Who Is Rusty’s Rest For? Rusty’s Rest is for families:
-
Who have been facing significant challenges recently (of any kind)
-
Who do not have access to camping and/or the means to afford this experience
-
Who would love, and welcome the opportunity to spend a couple of nights away together
-
Families who will respect our little site, and the tent and its contents and who will ensure they leave the tent as they will find it ready to be enjoyed by another family.
How do you access Rusty’s Rest (Eligibility and Safeguarding)
Rusty’s Rest is a small, supportive provision offering families time to rest and reconnect in a calm rural setting. It is hosted within a working campsite, so consideration for other campers and the wider site environment is essential.
Families may be referred or nominated through a range of routes, including local professionals, services, and trusted community partners, as well as community nomination. All referrals are considered on an individual basis.
Before any stay is confirmed, families are assessed to ensure Rusty’s Rest is an appropriate and safe fit. This includes wellbeing considerations, suitability for a shared rural space, and any relevant risk factors. Rusty Meadow CIC retains discretion to decline or defer referrals where safeguarding thresholds are not met or where a placement would not align with the therapeutic and restorative purpose of the space or the needs of the wider site.
All placements are subject to basic safeguarding checks and risk assessment as part of our duty of care.
About Rusty’s Rest
Rustys Rest is a spacious family tent that sleeps 2 adults and 2 kiddies (3 at a squeeze!)
Fully set up in our peaceful meadowSimple, back-to-basics facilities—no frills, just nature, space, and time together with lovely walks right out of our gate.
Important to Know:
Because we are a 'pop up camp site' everything here needs to remain temporary, there are regrettable limitations on accessible facilities.
We do have:
-
Wheelchair-wide doors to our composting toilets
-
Handrails inside the toilets
However, please be aware: The meadow is part of a working agricultural field and as such the field may have lumps, bumps and ruts. The ground surface within the toilet is gravel, so whilst you can access the toilets with a wheelchair space wise, should you be a wheelchair user or have a family member in a wheelchair I would advise that you arrange to come and visit the site first to check if it is suitable for you. As mentioned before, whilst inclusive access is important to us, pop up campsite restrictions put limitations on what we can do.
The site and facilities are very basic. This is proper camping! However we do have:
-
Composting toilets
-
Washing up area
-
USB Charging Hut
-
Honesty Shelf
-
Book Exchange
-
Activity Sheets for Kids
All you/the family will need to bring is clothes, bedding (we know people like their own bedding!) and food! We will have all the rest there for you!We have a large open space to play and lot's of lovely walks around us including down into Godshill village itself and the fab Godshill Play Park!
